QNA v1.0

Hello friends, as I promised, here's the first QNA post on FUSEPP. But before I get started, I'd like to remind you that the Early Decision/Early Action application deadline for most of the prestigious universities is approaching at warp speed (i.e., November 1, 2016). So , I hope all your applications are either sent or are in final stage. Similarly, Regular Decision deadline for most of the prestigious institutions is January 1, 2017. So, I'll be writing about some dos and don'ts to keep in mind before pressing that submit button on your screen. So, watch out for that post.

So, lets get started.

Which is the best/a good university for [xyz] major?

Well, this is probably the most frequently asked question. Even before a student starts planning for his studies abroad, he/she asks this question. It is so as it helps you to set a goal, a dream university to aim for.

Actually, there are 200+ majors in various US universities, so answering this question for every major will take at least a couple of posts. But in general, following US Universities are generally considered the best for every major.
  • Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)
  • California Institute of Technology (CalTech)
  • Stanford University
  • Brown University
  • Cornell University
  • Harvard University
  • Dartmouth College
  • Princeton University
  • University of Pennsylvania (UPenn)
  • Yale University
  • Columbia University
  • University of California, Berkeley (UC, Berkeley)
  • Rice University
  • Duke University
  • University of Michigan (UMich)
  • Georgia Institute of Technology (GeorgiaTech)
  • New York University, New York City (NYU), etc.
It's just a short list, so for information related to specific major, contact me or google it.

What are the pros and cons of US Education?

Well, I guess there are a lot more pros than cons, that's the reason we want US Higher Education, isn't it?

Pros

  • Best educational pattern in the world (at least I think so).
  • Fabulous work opportunities (especially for technological majors because of Fortune 500 companies).
  • Getting to know and live American Culture.
  • Awesome career opportunities and lifestyle.
  • Golden chance to know about various cultures from all parts of the world as it is a hub of all kinds of people.
  • A huge chunk of world famous universities is in America, etc, etc, etc.

Cons

Well, the only con I can think of is the expense of education and living but there are a hell lot of scholarships which make the life easier. Moreover, the expense is worth it, isn't it?

What do US Universities think about Gap Year?

You'll be surprised to know that almost all the US Universities encourage students to take a gap year. After all, everyone needs a break after continuous studies for so many years. But, you should note that taking a gap year does not mean having fun for a whole year. Instead, universities expect you to hone your skills and talents. So, do something which would strengthen your profile and taking a gap year just for fun is a big "Red Flag" to your college application.

So during gap year, undertake activities which interests you. This will solidify your application along with the much needed fun.

What's your SAT score?

Well, I appeared for the SAT in May 2016 and got a good score without any tuition. I did it all by myself. And it's a fact, no matter how much tuition you take, if you don't self study, then your hard work won't give you desired results. So, self study is a must. So, I got a good score but good doesn't agree with me, so I'll be reappearing for the SAT.

That's why this is a unique place to learn and teach simultaneously. I am sharing my experiences and tricks which I'm using myself and I'm learning from you guys too. So, we learn from each other's mistakes and experiences.

When should a student start planning for education in US?

As soon as a student enters the freshmen year of the high school (i.e., Grade 9), he/she should start planning, prepping, and researching for the US Education 'cause trust me, it's the time. You won't get it later. Do not procrastinate, start as early as possible to make it a smooth ride to US.

What are your plans for higher studies in US?

Well, I want to major in Computer Science from Cornell University. That's why I said that good doesn't agree with me. Then, I want to do my masters degree from Cornell University too and become a part of any fabulous company like Google, Microsoft, Apple, Samsung, etc. along with working on my individual projects.

Talking of work experience, I'd like to say that one should gain at least 3 years of work experience in his/her field of work in US after graduation before returning to the native country. Not doing so is a fatal mistake which a lot of people make. In some extreme cases, it can even destroy your career even before starting.

So, I guess that's all for this post. Also, keep sending me your queries and comments for the "QNA v2.0"
